Daily demand = occupants × indoor use per person + outdoor use. Peak demand applies the entered factor. Reserve storage = daily demand × storage days.

Calculation steps
- 1Multiply occupants by the entered indoor use per person.
- 2Add average outdoor demand separately so seasonal irrigation is visible.
- 3Apply the peak-day factor only to the demand metric that needs it.
- 4Use average daily demand × reserve days for storage and utility rates for cost.
Worked numerical example
Four occupants at 60 gal/person/day plus 40 gal/day outdoors use about 280 gal/day. A 1.5 peak factor gives 420 gal on a peak day, and three days of average reserve storage equals about 840 gal.
Purchasing and rounding
For storage tanks or treatment equipment, use the demand result as an input rather than a finished equipment size. Verify usable tank volume, well yield, pump capacity and local water-quality needs.
Interpret the result
Average demand supports billing and storage planning; peak-day demand represents a higher-use scenario. Neither value predicts instantaneous plumbing fixture flow.
