Editorial and calculation policy
How BuildMeter selects formulas, sources defaults, tests calculator logic, updates content and separates editorial decisions from advertising.
Purpose and audience
BuildMeter publishes planning calculators for homeowners, tradespeople, estimators and students who need a transparent first estimate. Pages are written to help a person understand the input, formula, rounding and limitation—not merely to target a search phrase.
Formula development
Calculations begin with a clearly defined quantity such as area, volume, flow, energy or cost. Inputs are converted to a consistent internal unit, the formula is applied, and purchasing units are rounded only at the stage where whole packages or loads are required. Validation tests cover expected results, invalid values, unit modes and route availability.
Source-selection hierarchy
Preference is given to national measurement institutions, government energy or water agencies, official manufacturer data, established industry organizations and primary technical documentation. Product-specific yield, coverage and package assumptions should be replaced with the exact selected product data. Unsourced claims, copied competitor text and invented ratings are not used.
Defaults and examples
Default values are examples that make the calculator immediately understandable. They are not recommendations or code requirements. Priority pages explain what the defaults mean and include worked examples, common mistakes, reference tables and limitations.
Review and updates
Priority calculators display a last-reviewed date. High-impact corrections to formula logic, conversion or purchasing results are documented in the changelog. Minor wording and layout improvements may be released without a separate entry when they do not change the calculation.
Advertising independence
Advertising providers do not choose formulas, rankings, defaults, related links or conclusions. Ad placements are separated from calculator controls and use a useful internal-link fallback when no ad is available. The advertising page explains the implementation.
Professional and safety boundary
BuildMeter does not claim that every calculator was reviewed by a licensed engineer. Quantity and cost estimates do not approve structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire, accessibility, environmental or code decisions. Users must verify project-specific requirements with appropriate professionals and authorities.
