Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Base heating capacity uses area × entered load rate. Ceiling, insulation and climate factors adjust the load. Input power = thermal capacity ÷ COP or efficiency factor.

FAQ

Home Heating Cost Calculator questions

Can the performance factor be above one?+

Yes for heat pumps using COP. Resistance or combustion efficiencies are normally at or below one when expressed this way.

What are equivalent full-load hours?+

They combine cycling and part-load operation into an equivalent number of hours at full input.

Why can actual bills differ?+

Real weather, energy tariffs, thermostat use, infiltration and equipment controls vary by home and month.
