Enter this project assumption in ft. The current imperial default is 15 ft.
Additional floor area
Enter this project assumption in ft². The current imperial default is 0 ft². Minimum: 0.
Cut allowance
Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 10 %. Minimum: 0. Maximum: 50.
Overlap allowance
Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 5 %. Minimum: 0. Maximum: 30.
Coverage per roll

Roll runs
across entered width. Default preview: 5.

rounded full rolls. Default preview: 1.
Material cost
underlayment and tape. Default preview: $152.00.
Methodology
Transparent calculation
BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.
Order area = floor area × cut allowance × overlap allowance. Rolls = round up (order area ÷ roll coverage). Seam length follows the estimated number of roll runs.
FAQ
Flooring Underlayment Calculator questions
Is more than one layer of underlayment recommended?+
Not automatically. Extra layers can cause excessive movement and may void flooring instructions.
Does attached-pad flooring need underlayment?+
Only when the flooring manufacturer permits or requires it.
Why include overlap separately from waste?+
Overlap consumes material across seams even when cutting waste is low.
