Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Sealant volume uses cylindrical bead geometry: π × radius² × total bead length. Add waste, divide by cartridge volume and round to full cases.

Why can calculated coverage differ from a product chart?+

Product charts may assume a triangular or compressed bead, while this calculator models an editable round bead. Use the manufacturer chart when available.

Should both sides of a sound-rated partition be sealed?+

Many tested assemblies require perimeter sealing on both faces, but the exact detail must come from the selected assembly.

Can acoustic sealant also serve as firestop?+

Only when the exact product and joint are listed or approved for that fire-rated use.
