Methodology
Transparent calculation
BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.
Order area = installation area × waste factor. Boxes are rounded up from package coverage. Tile volume = purchased area × thickness, and weight = volume × density.
FAQ
Tile Weight Calculator questions
Does porcelain weigh more than ceramic tile?+
It can, but thickness and product density both matter. Use the manufacturer value when available.
Is mortar included in the floor load?+
No. Mortar, grout, membranes and backer products add separate weight.
Why calculate weight from purchased area?+
The boxes delivered to the site include package-rounded coverage, even when some tile remains unused.
