Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Pieces per direction = floor ((sheet dimension + kerf) ÷ (panel dimension + kerf)). Both 90-degree orientations are compared. Planned panels include the extra allowance, and sheets are rounded up.

FAQ

Plywood Cut List Calculator questions

Does the calculator optimize multiple panel sizes?+

No. It estimates one repeated rectangular panel size at a time.

Why include saw kerf?+

Each cut removes material, so ignoring blade width can overstate how many pieces fit.

Does grain direction matter?+

It can. Select the orientation that preserves the required face grain or structural direction, even if yield is lower.
