Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Application hours = surface area × coats ÷ productivity. Preparation hours are an entered percentage of application time. Total labor cost = total hours × labor rate plus overhead allowance.

FAQ

Paint Labor Cost Calculator questions

Does this include paint and supplies?+

No. This calculator estimates labor only; paint, primer, masking materials and equipment are separate.

Why is preparation entered as a percentage?+

Preparation varies widely. A percentage lets you scale sanding, patching, masking and protection time to project complexity.

Should primer be counted as another coat?+

Yes when primer requires a full separate application. Add it to the coat count or estimate it with the paint-primer calculator.
