Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Base primer volume = area × coats ÷ coverage. Waste is added, then containers are rounded up from the selected package size. Cost = containers × price per container.

FAQ

Paint Primer Calculator questions

Does primer use the same coverage as finish paint?+

Not always. Porous surfaces and specialty primers can have different coverage, so use the product label value.

Should doors and windows be removed from wall area?+

Subtract large unpainted openings when accuracy matters, while keeping a reasonable allowance for edges and touch-up.

Why is purchased volume higher than calculated volume?+

Primer is sold in fixed container sizes, so the order is rounded up to whole containers.
