Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Flat area = fence length × height × coated faces. Post-and-rail allowance, coat count and extra allowance are applied before container rounding.

FAQ

Fence Paint Calculator questions

Should both sides of a fence be coated?+

That depends on access, ownership, exposure and the desired finish. The faces input can be set to one or two.

Why add a posts-and-rails allowance?+

A flat rectangle does not include the additional surfaces around posts, rails and picket edges.

Does spraying use more coating?+

It can, because overspray and transfer loss reduce effective coverage.
