Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Sealant volume = joint length × width × depth. The allowance is applied before cartridge rounding; backer rod is rounded up by roll length.

Calculation steps

  1. 1Measure every specified isolation or expansion-joint run.
  2. 2Enter the joint width and depth required by the detail.
  3. 3Apply waste for corners, splices and damaged material.
  4. 4Round filler, backer rod and sealant to whole packages.

Worked numerical example

A 48 ft perimeter isolation joint plus two 12 ft separations creates 72 ft of joint. Adding 10% gives 79.2 ft, so eight 10 ft filler strips are required.

Order joint components as a compatible system; filler depth, backer rod diameter and sealant movement rating must match the detail.

Interpret the result
