Transparent calculation

Filler volume = crack length × prepared width × fill depth. The allowance is applied before cartridge quantity is rounded up.

How to use this estimate in a real project

Estimate crack-filler volume from measured crack length, average width and average depth. Use separate calculations for hairline routing, gravity-fed repairs and wider moving cracks because products and preparation differ.

Calculation steps

  2. 2Separate cracks that require different products or preparation.
  3. 3Calculate volume using consistent units and add application loss.
  4. 4Round to full cartridges, kits or pails using net usable yield.

Worked numerical example

A routed crack 85 ft long, 1/4 in wide and 3/8 in deep contains about 95.6 in³. At 20 in³ usable yield per cartridge, order five cartridges plus the project allowance.

Purchasing and rounding

Use the selected product’s usable mixed volume, not package weight alone. Two-component materials may have minimum mixing units and short pot life, so package size should match crew production.

Interpret the result

The estimate describes fill volume, not the cause or structural significance of the crack. Active movement, water leakage, corrosion or differential settlement requires diagnosis before repair.
