Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Net volume = area × coats ÷ product coverage. Order volume adds the waste allowance, then containers are rounded up.

How to use this estimate in a real project

Estimate bonding-agent quantity for a prepared concrete repair area from surface area, application rate and coat count. The calculator supports purchasing; it does not determine whether a bonding agent is compatible with the repair mortar or exposure.

Calculation steps

  1. 1Measure only the prepared interface that will receive product.
  2. 2Use the manufacturer coverage for the actual substrate texture and application method.
  3. 3Multiply by the specified number of coats and include a controlled allowance.
  4. 4Round to complete containers without mixing incompatible lots or products.

Worked numerical example

A 420 ft² repair surface receiving two coats at 250 ft² per gallon requires 3.36 gallons. With 8% handling allowance, plan 3.63 gallons and round to the available container sizes.

Purchasing and rounding

Coverage can fall on rough, porous or overhead surfaces. Use the current product data sheet, observe pot life and temperature limits, and buy container sizes that can be used within the working time.

Interpret the result

The estimate is liquid quantity. It does not confirm surface preparation, moisture condition, open time, repair-mortar compatibility or bond performance.

Often yes. Rough or porous surfaces can consume more product than a smooth test surface.

Is bonding agent required for every concrete overlay?+

No. The repair or overlay system determines whether a bonding agent, slurry coat or saturated-surface-dry condition is used.

Can different bonding products be mixed?+

Do not assume compatibility. Use one specified system and follow its technical data.
