Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Lost volume = flow rate × minutes leaking. Water cost uses thousands of gallons in imperial mode or cubic metres in metric mode. The optional sewer surcharge is added as a percentage of the water charge.

FAQ

Water Leak Cost Calculator questions

How can leak flow be measured?+

A timed container test can estimate visible flow. For hidden leaks, compare water-meter readings while fixtures are off.

Why include a sewer surcharge?+

Many utilities bill wastewater as a percentage of water use, though policies differ and outdoor or verified leaks may be adjusted.

Does this include property damage?+

No. It estimates metered water and optional wastewater charges only.
