Methodology
Transparent calculation
BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.
Direct use is the entered share of annual generation, capped by demand. Battery delivery equals captured surplus × round-trip efficiency, capped by remaining demand. Annual value combines avoided imports and export credit.
FAQ
Solar Self-Consumption Calculator questions
What is solar self-consumption?+
It is the share of generated solar energy used by the property directly or after battery storage instead of being exported.
How is self-sufficiency different?+
Self-sufficiency is the share of total electricity demand supplied by solar and battery energy.
Why is hourly modeling more accurate?+
Annual totals cannot show whether generation and demand occur at the same time or whether a battery reaches its power and energy limits.
