What each value means

The labels and units below are part of this calculator’s visible methodology. Replace every default with measurements or product data from the actual project.

Pool length

Enter this project assumption in ft. The current imperial default is 30 ft.

Pool width

Enter this project assumption in ft. The current imperial default is 15 ft.

Average water depth

Enter this project assumption in ft. The current imperial default is 5 ft.

Pool shape factor

Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 85 %. Minimum: 1. Maximum: 100.

Current fill level

Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 0 %. Minimum: 0. Maximum: 100.

Fill and startup allowance

Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 3 %. Minimum: 0. Maximum: 25.

Water and sewer rate

Enter this project assumption in per 1,000 gal. The current imperial default is 8.5 per 1,000 gal. Minimum: 0.

Fill flow rate

Enter this project assumption in gal/min. The current imperial default is 9 gal/min.

Fixed delivery or setup fee

Enter this project assumption in a unitless value. The current imperial default is 0. Minimum: 0.

Water still required

0% currently filled. Default preview: 14,306 gal.

Estimated fill time

9 gal/min. Default preview: 27.3 hours.

Utility water cost

entered water and sewer rate. Default preview: $125.25.

Fixed fee

delivery or setup allowance. Default preview: $0.00.

Startup allowance

splash, backwash and startup needs. Default preview: 3%.

Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Full volume = length × width × average depth × shape factor. Remaining water accounts for current fill level, then the fill allowance is added. Cost uses the entered utility rate plus any fixed fee.

FAQ

Pool Fill Cost Calculator questions

Why use a pool shape factor?+

Oval, kidney and freeform pools occupy less volume than the full surrounding rectangle. The factor lets you reduce rectangular volume.

Should sewer charges be included?+

Utility billing rules differ. Enter the combined effective rate that actually applies to the fill.

Is hose flow constant?+

Not always. Pressure, hose diameter and simultaneous household use can change the real fill rate.
