Calculation steps

  3. 3Review the unrounded engineering or usage result before applying allowances, duty cycle, efficiency or tariff assumptions.
  4. 4Apply each adjustment once, then round only the final purchasing, equipment-count or scheduling output.

Worked numerical example

If a selected pipe section weighs 2.4 lb/ft, a 30 ft run weighs about 72 lb empty; fluid, insulation, valves and fittings must be added for support-load calculations.

Purchasing and rounding

Use actual pipe dimensions and material density or manufacturer weight-per-length data. Structural support selection should include contained fluid and attached components rather than purchasing from empty-pipe weight alone.

Interpret the result
