Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Net wall area = length × height − openings. Units = round up (net area ÷ nominal unit face area), then apply waste. Total cost adds units, mortar and labor allowance.

FAQ

Masonry Wall Cost Calculator questions

Should mortar joints be included in unit dimensions?+

Use nominal masonry dimensions that include the intended joint module.

Does the estimate include grout and reinforcement?+

No. Reinforced or fully grouted walls require separate quantities.

Why use a labor allowance per area?+

It provides a simple editable budget assumption; actual labor varies with height, access, detailing and market conditions.
