Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Net run = wall run − appliance and doorway width. Base and wall runs apply their coverage percentages and filler allowance. Cabinet count = round up (planned run ÷ average module width).

Translate available kitchen wall run into approximate base, wall and tall cabinet modules after appliance/doorway deductions, coverage percentages and filler allowance.

Calculation steps

  1. 1Measure usable wall run between fixed boundaries.
  2. 2Subtract appliances and openings that interrupt cabinet boxes.
  3. 3Apply the base, wall and tall-unit coverage assumptions to the net run.
  4. 4Add filler allowance, then divide each planned run by its average module width and round to whole boxes.

Worked numerical example

Start with the measured cabinet wall run, subtract refrigerator/range/doorway widths, then allocate the remaining run between base, wall and tall units. The calculator rounds each planned run by the entered average module width, so a small leftover can create one additional cabinet box.

Purchasing and rounding

Cabinet modules are not interchangeable linear footage. Confirm actual box widths, corner cabinets, fillers, panels, appliance clearances and finished ends from the final layout before ordering.

Interpret the result

The result is an early module count and box-cost scenario. It cannot resolve corner geometry, sink bases, drawer stacks or exact manufacturer SKU combinations.
