Calculation steps

  1. 1Count only outside corners or edges receiving bead.
  2. 2Multiply full-height corners by actual finished height and add horizontal bead runs.
  3. 3Apply a cut allowance for damaged ends and short returns.
  4. 4Divide by stock length and round up; estimate fasteners from bead length and chosen spacing.

Worked numerical example

Twelve 8 ft outside corners plus 20 ft of horizontal edge require 116 ft of bead before allowance. A 10% cut allowance gives 127.6 ft; with 10 ft stock, the order rounds to 13 pieces.

Purchasing and rounding

Match bead type to the finishing system: paper-faced, vinyl, metal and specialty reveal profiles use different fasteners, compounds and stock lengths.

Interpret the result

The whole-piece count is the purchase quantity; the base linear footage is the installed edge length. Offcuts can reduce waste only when their lengths suit remaining corners.
