Casing length = (two opening heights + opening width) × doors × faces. Add the cut allowance, then divide by stock length and round up.

Why count only three sides?+

Typical door casing covers the two jambs and head, not the threshold.

Should casing be measured at the opening edge?+

Measure along the intended reveal line because casing outside dimensions exceed the door opening.

Can eight-foot stock cover a standard door leg?+

Often, but tall openings and large reveals may require longer stock. Confirm the finished cut length.
