Calculation steps
- 1Add the ledger length, both end returns and planned lap/splice length for each ledger.
- 2Multiply by the number of equal ledgers.
- 3Apply the detailing allowance for corners, penetrations and field cuts.
- 4Round the final length to whole rolls or stock sections.
Worked numerical example
Two 28 ft ledgers with 6 in returns at both ends and 2 ft of planned splice/lap length per ledger require 62 ft of base flashing: (28 + 1 + 2) × 2. Adding 12% detailing allowance gives 69.44 ft. With 50 ft rolls, the order is 2 rolls, leaving 30.56 ft available for additional compatible details or offcuts.
Purchasing and rounding
Verify flashing width, material compatibility, roll length and the complete wall-to-ledger drainage detail. Rigid cap flashing and self-adhered membrane may be separate products; do not assume one roll replaces every layer in the assembly.
