Worked numerical example
A 20 ft × 12 ft slab averaging 5 in thick contains 100 ft³. At 145 lb/ft³, the concrete weighs about 14,500 lb, or 7.25 US tons, before reinforcing steel or debris contamination.
Purchasing and rounding
Dumpster size is usually limited by weight before geometric volume for dense concrete. Confirm accepted materials, maximum fill line, haul limits and overweight charges with the provider.
Interpret the result

Broken pieces contain air gaps, so demolished concrete generally occupies more container space than it did in place.
Should reinforcing steel be included?+
The editable density can be increased for heavily reinforced material, or steel can be estimated separately when it will be sorted for recycling.
Can a dumpster be filled to its volume limit?+
Often not with concrete. Dense debris may reach the container or truck weight limit well before the container is physically full.
