Slab volume = length × width × thickness × quantity. Weight = placed volume × concrete density. The order allowance applies to purchased volume, not the finished slab weight.

Calculation steps
- 1Calculate slab volume using actual plan dimensions and average thickness.
- 2Choose density for normal-weight, lightweight or other specified concrete.
- 3Multiply volume by density.
- 4Add toppings, finishes, reinforcement or moisture separately when relevant.
Worked numerical example
A 24 ft × 20 ft slab at 6 in thick contains 240 ft³. At 145 lb/ft³, its estimated concrete weight is 34,800 lb, or 17.4 US tons.

For hauling, convert the result to legal payload and container limits. For lifting or support planning, obtain verified dimensions and material density rather than relying on defaults.
Interpret the result
The result is estimated material mass. It does not determine bearing capacity, demolition sequence, crane selection or whether an existing structure can support the slab.

Why separate placed volume from order volume?+
The placed slab follows its geometry, while the purchased quantity may include waste, uneven subgrade and handling losses.
Can this be used for demolition hauling?+
It provides a planning estimate, but broken concrete bulk volume, embedded steel and hauler weight limits must also be considered.
