How to use this estimate in a real project

Use this calculator to estimate concrete volume for one or more rectangular beams from length, width and depth. It supports material ordering only and does not determine beam size, reinforcement, bearing or structural capacity.

Calculation steps

  1. 1Convert width and depth to consistent units.
  2. 2Calculate one beam as length × width × depth.
  3. 3Multiply by beam quantity.
  4. 4Add placement allowance and convert to supplier units.

Worked numerical example

A beam 20 ft long × 12 in wide × 18 in deep has 30 ft³, or 1.11 yd³. Three equal beams require 3.33 yd³ before allowance.

Purchasing and rounding

Ready-mix is ordered in supplier increments. Include pump-line, form leakage and contingency appropriate to the placement.

Interpret the result

Beam depth and width both scale volume linearly. Multiple beams should be separated when their dimensions differ.
