Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Bricks = net wall area × bricks per area. Mortar = bricks ÷ 1,000 × mortar factor × waste factor. Bags are rounded up.

Estimate brick-mortar material cost from wall area or brick count, mortar yield, bag count and local unit price. It separates quantity arithmetic from mortar-type selection and labor pricing.

Calculation steps

  1. 1Determine brick quantity or net wall area.
  2. 2Use joint dimensions and product-specific mortar yield.
  3. 3Round mortar to full bags or batch quantities.
  4. 4Multiply by local prices and list delivery, pigment and equipment separately.

Worked numerical example

A wall requires an estimated 1.6 yd³ of mortar. At 0.65 ft³ usable yield per bag, that is about 67 bags. At ₪42 per bag, material cost is ₪2,814 before delivery, sand or color additives.

Purchasing and rounding

Verify whether the price is for preblended mortar, cement-lime components or site-batched materials. Color consistency may require buying one lot and controlling water and mixing.

Interpret the result

The result is mortar material cost, not installed masonry cost. Scaffold, labor, reinforcement, flashing, cleaning and waste can exceed the mortar line item.
