Finished soil depth

Enter this project assumption in in. The current imperial default is 4 in.

Settlement allowance

Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 15 %. Minimum: 0. Maximum: 60.

Spreading and grade allowance

Enter this project assumption in %. The current imperial default is 5 %. Minimum: 0. Maximum: 40.

Delivery capacity per load

Enter this project assumption in yd³. The current imperial default is 12 yd³.

Topsoil price per volume

Enter this project assumption in per yd³. The current imperial default is 38 per yd³. Minimum: 0.

Delivery fee per load

Enter this project assumption in per load. The current imperial default is 95 per load. Minimum: 0.

loads × delivery fee. Default preview: $285.00.

Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Base volume = area × finished depth. Settlement and spreading allowances increase the order volume. Loads are rounded up by truck capacity. Total cost = order volume × soil price + loads × delivery fee.

FAQ

Topsoil Delivery Cost Calculator questions

Why include settlement?+

Loose delivered topsoil can settle after spreading, watering and light compaction, reducing the finished depth.

Can a supplier deliver a partial load?+

Often yes, but minimum-order and delivery pricing vary. The calculator rounds loads for transport planning.

Does this estimate topsoil weight?+

No. Moisture and soil composition make weight variable; ask the supplier when payload or access is important.
