Transparent calculation

Net starter length is divided among separate wall sections. Each section is rounded independently to effective stock length, then allowance and carton rounding are applied.

Calculation steps

  4. 4Apply one documented allowance, then divide by the exact package yield or stock length and round up only at the purchasing stage.

Worked numerical example

A building with 168 ft of starter perimeter and 12 ft starter strips needs fourteen pieces theoretically, with additional stock for cuts and required laps.

Purchasing and rounding

Measure only the wall bases and transitions that require starter strip, subtracting door or other breaks where the system does not continue. Divide each run by usable stock length after required end gaps or overlaps and round to whole strips.

Interpret the result

The result is starter-strip linear footage and piece count for the selected siding layout. It should not be substituted for siding perimeter generally; corners, J-channel, utility trim and other accessory profiles require separate takeoffs.

Why are wall sections rounded separately?+

Offcuts from one wall are not always reusable at another corner or opening. Independent rounding gives a more conservative purchase quantity.

Can any starter strip be used with any siding?+

No. The starter lock must match the siding profile and manufacturer system.

Does this include J-channel and corner posts?+

No. Those accessories have separate lengths and installation details.
