Calculation steps

  4. 4Apply one documented allowance, then divide by the exact package yield or stock length and round up only at the purchasing stage.

Worked numerical example

Two valleys measuring 24 ft and 31 ft require 55 linear feet of liner before end laps; with 50 ft rolls, stock configuration may require two rolls.

Purchasing and rounding

Measure every valley along the slope and add the liner manufacturer's required end laps. Convert total required length into available roll lengths while considering whether offcuts can be reused on another valley; width and material type must match the roof detail.

Interpret the result

The result is valley-liner length, not roof area. Two valleys with the same combined length can require different roll counts when individual valley lengths force unusable remnants or additional end laps.

Not necessarily. Valley details may use self-adhering membrane, roll roofing, metal flashing or another approved system.

Why count valleys separately?+

Each valley can create its own cut pieces and end laps, so one combined linear measurement can hide layout loss.

Does this choose open, closed-cut or woven valleys?+

No. The roof system and manufacturer instructions determine the valley method.
