Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Order length = gutter length × cutting allowance. Sections = order length ÷ stock length, rounded up. Fasteners use the entered spacing plus extra corner fasteners.

Calculation steps

  4. 4Apply one documented allowance, then divide by the exact package yield or stock length and round up only at the purchasing stage.

Worked numerical example

A house with 146 ft of gutter using 4 ft guard sections needs 37 sections before corner cuts and product-specific overlaps.

Purchasing and rounding

Measure each gutter run and divide it by the actual installed length of the selected guard section. Account for required section overlaps, inside/outside corners and end cuts before rounding to whole pieces; guards sold by nominal length may provide less usable run after overlap.

Interpret the result

The result is guard quantity for the measured gutter length and selected section coverage. It does not determine whether the guard is compatible with the roof edge, gutter profile or snow conditions, which should be checked before purchase.
