A foundation takeoff should follow the load path: footing geometry first, then wall volume, reinforcement, forms, drainage and backfill. Soil capacity, frost depth and reinforcement layout are design inputs—not values a quantity calculator can invent.

Worked example

For a 40 ft × 28 ft rectangular foundation, the perimeter is 136 ft. A 20 in wide by 10 in deep continuous footing contains about 7.0 yd³ before allowance. An 8 in thick, 8 ft high wall around the same perimeter contains about 26.9 yd³ before subtracting openings. These quantities must remain separate because they may use different mixes and placement schedules.
