Methodology

Transparent calculation

BuildMeter converts every input to a consistent internal unit, applies the selected allowance, and rounds products up to whole purchasable units.

Project volume = length × width × thickness. The waste allowance is added. Usable batch capacity = rated capacity × load factor. Required batches are rounded up, and total time equals batches × minutes per batch.

How to use this estimate in a real project

Convert a required concrete volume into mixer batches using the mixer’s practical batch output rather than drum nameplate volume. It supports production planning for small placements.

Calculation steps

  1. 1Calculate required placed volume including allowance.
  2. 2Determine practical mixed output per batch from the mixer and chosen mix.
  3. 3Divide required volume by practical output.
  4. 4Round upward and calculate total cement, aggregate, water or bagged mix per batch.

Worked numerical example

A repair needs 1.8 yd³, or 48.6 ft³. If the mixer consistently produces 4.5 ft³ per batch, 10.8 batches are required, so plan 11 full batches plus any test or cleanup batch.

Purchasing and rounding

Nameplate drum capacity is not always usable concrete output. Verify the manufacturer’s mixing capacity, power supply, cycle time and aggregate size before planning labor and materials.

Interpret the result

Batch count is a workflow estimate. Placement time, cold joints, consistency control and worker capacity may make a mixer unsuitable even when total volume appears manageable.
