## Start with the complete project system

Residential ventilation has three related tasks: remove pollutants at kitchens and baths, provide controlled whole-house outdoor air and move that air through ducts with acceptable noise and energy use. Nameplate airflow is not the same as delivered airflow.

## Worked example

An 80 ft² bathroom may start with an 80 cfm target. If the selected fan delivers only 62 cfm through the installed duct at its operating pressure, it would need about 29% more runtime to move the same air volume. The better response may be a larger duct or a fan with a stronger performance curve.

Separate fans, ducts, terminals, controls and make-up-air components in the takeoff. Confirm fan ratings at the expected static pressure and actual duct sizes rather than selecting equipment from room area alone.
